Принятый в отечественной методике преподавания коммуникативный подход к обучению иностранному языку обуславливает необходимость оперативной и качественной подготовке к функционированию его средств. С особой остротой эта проблема стоит в области обучения лексике, в частности на этапе тренировке учащихся в ее усвоении, когда должны быть решены следующие задачи: правильность и точность восприятия школьниками образа слова, правильная «локализация» слова в памяти ученика на основе привлечения информации о других словах иностранного языка, правильное и разнообразное комбинирование лексических единиц с другими.

Каждому учителю известно, что плохое знание лексики – основное препятствие для успешного выполнения речевого задания. Успех в обучении иностранному языку во многом зависит от того, в какой степени качество знаний учащихся находится в поле зрения учителя и какое внимание уделяется профилактике ошибок. Мой опыт подтверждает, что большую пользу может принести проверка лексических и грамматических знаний в форме небольших по объему контрольных заданий. Данные упражнения предлагаются учащимся в конце учебного года на уроках – повторениях.

Результаты проверки анализируются учителем и служат для него, с одной стороны, показателем уровня знаний учащихся, а с другой – самооценкой работы самого учителя, что позволяет ему внести необходимые коррективы в процесс обучения и те самым предупредить повторение ошибок школьников.
